“Is That Your Ballot on the Counter?” and Other Election Day Questions
With the stakes of the 2020 election as high as they are, we don't need to ask you if you're voting (we know you are)! But here are a few questions over the next two weeks.
For some of us, November 3rd can’t come fast enough. For others, things may seem more complicated. Maybe things are crazy at work or school. Or worse—maybe nonexistent. Maybe you’ve just moved away, moved back, or moved temporarily. Hey, there’s a pandemic going on—everything seems trickier, including voting.
RIP Chadwick Boseman
It’s been one month since the loss of Chadwick Boseman and The PDX Black Excellence Family is heartbroken. His life and work had a foundational impact on our organization: it was in congregation to watch his groundbreaking portrayal of Black Panther in 2018 that PDXBE was humbly born.

Disarm PSU Now!
It's time to take a stand: call for the immediate and permanent disarmament of PSU campus police.
By signing this petition, you stand beside PDX Black Excellence, Disarm PSU Now, and other organizations in Portland and beyond in condemning a system that is too often lethal and too seldom held to account.
Kayla’s Story
George Floyd’s killing by Minneapolis police on May 25, 2020 has sparked necessary outrage and mass demonstrations. It has also rekindled important debate about the cost-benefit of an armed police system. As a community based organization here in Portland we want to be affirmative in our stance with the community and vocal in our call to action. One of our very own has experienced the direct hardship of these senseless, unnecessary tragedies. We believe that this is something we can overcome here in the city of Portland and this is where we start: acknowledging our past transgressions and doing what's right to rectify them. The following story is from Kayla Washington. We hope you'll read her words, and join us in action.
Immediate Ways to Support Today
We know that whether you're new to the cause, new to the city, or just anxious to find new ways to fight, it can be challenging to know what first step to take. We want to assure you that if you're looking to get involved—regardless of your race, age, or experience with activism—there are simple actions you can take.
